We’re very pleased to welcome aboard our first publishing exhibitor to Comic Book City Con 2013, Valiant Entertainment! Since relaunching their line in the summer of 2012 (the “Summer” of Valiant) these guys have consistently been working with some of the best talent in the business to produce some of the most talked about books and most clever marketing campaigns on the shelves!
Check them out online at Valiant Universe.com and do your best to snag some of their upcoming 8-bit NES inspired variant covers for books like X-O Manowar, Harbinger Wars, Shadowman and MORE!
Today I have the pleasure of announcing two fine gentlemen that have already been added to the guest list, but haven’t gotten credit where credit is due with their own post!
Jacob Chabot is the Eisner-nominated creator of the Mighty Skullboy Army from Dark Horse, as well as the mini comics Space Chick & Space Chicken and the Beetle! Jacob’s work can also be found in a variety of Marvel Comics, including the X-Babies: Stars Reborn mini series written by Gregg Schigiel, the humorous follow-up to Fear Itself, Shame Itself, and Avengers vs. X-Men Versus #6! Most recently, Jacob has drawn volumes 1 and 6 of the Voltron Force graphic novels for Viz Media. He hangs out online at Beetle Bug Comics.
Greensboro’s own Thomas Boatwright is the Eagle-nominated co-creator and artist of Cemetery Blues from Image Comics and Zeke Deadwood Zombie Lawman from SLG! His fast, haunting style has developed a legion of dedicated fans both locally and worldwide! In 2012, Boatwright and writer Paul Allor released Orc Girl both in print and digitally, and the book garnered the highest praise from Batgirl writer Gail Simone! Check out more of his artwork at Boatwright Artwork.com.
Acme Comics Presents is in business, the FCBD guest list has been announced, and we’re rededicated to bringing you the industry’s best talent for Comic Book City Con, starting with JL8 creator Yale Stewart!
Yale made a huge impression on the crowds at Free Comic Book Day 2012 and the world at large with his web comic JL8 (then titled Little League) and recently he’s been reaching a mature readers fanbase via his back-up stories in the Legend of Luther Strode from Image! Keep up with the twice-weekly updates to JL8 on Tumblr!
We’re very pleased to announce another first-time Greensboro guest, Ninjasaur creator Jason Horn! A true Kickstarter success story, in addition to working on the series starring a dinosaur that also happens to be a ninja (and not the other way around), Jason is soon to become studio-mates with Crogan’s Adventures creator Chris Schweizer and Mega Man artist Chad Thomas! Great company to keep!
Welcome to 2013, the year of our inaugural show! Excitement is definitely building on our Facebook page, with 50 “likes” yesterday alone! I can’t wait to see the reaction to the news that G-Man creator Chris Giarrusso will be making his ninth trip to the Gate City!
Since his last visit to Acme for Free Comic Book Day 2012, Chris has been diligently working on the next installment in the saga of G-Man & Great Man, “Coming Home”, the first chapter of which has been made available via Comixology and to legions of new Chris G. fans for FREE through the Read 2 Succeed program, sponsored by Acme and WFMY News 2! Chris can also be found drawing weekly strips for Tales from the Con, written by Brad Guiger for Seattle’s premiere convention, Emerald City!
Happy Holidays! Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! And our gift to you from everyone here at the Comic Book City Con braintrust? The news that Daredevil writer Mark Waid will be coming to Comic Book City, USA for CBCC 2013!
Few writers have remained as prolific and inventive over the last 20 years as Mr. Waid. It truly can’t be summarized, but we’ll try.
He spoiled an entire generation of Flash fans with his pivotal development of Wally West in the ’90s. He was the only person with the encyclopedic knowledge of the DC Universe to match enthusiasm with Alex Ross on Kingdom Come. He pulled Boom! Studios from the shadows as their editor-in-chief and creator of two of their highest selling titles of all time, Irredeemable and Incorruptible. He broke Daredevil free of a 30 year cycle of bad luck. And in 2012 he snapped comics free of the printed page in a whole new way with his Avengers vs. X-Men Infinite Comics supplements and put his own legendary comic collection on the line to bring you a new frontier of creator-owned comics with Thrillbent.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!
Dealer tables are starting to move, and today, in lieu of announcing another fantastic guest, we’d like to spotlight one of our fellow retailers that will be setting up at the show!
Ssalefish Comics & Toys calls 3242 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem home. In layman’s terms, they’re located in the Toys ‘R’ Us shopping center across the street from Hanes Mall. For vintage toys, there’s nowhere better in the Triad!
If you’re interested in purchasing a table for Artist Alley or the Dealer Room, make sure you look into the details on our Exhibitor Page!
You know him, you shop with him, and now it’s time to show the hometown boy how much you love him as we welcome Greensboro’s own MonstHer creator and Artist Alley Comics co-founder Kelly Yates!
In addition to being a Wednesday Acme Comics customers just like many of you, Kelly has worked closely with fellow creators Craig Rousseau and Rich Woodall throughout 2012 to launch Artist Alley Comics as a viable, creator-focused alternative to digital distribution! Yates debuted his newest project, MonstHer, via Artist Alley in June, alongside new stories from guys like Richard Case, Chris Kemple and Tim Sale.
